“It’s integral to who I am, it’s one of my pillars, it’s the thing that keeps me well”
My five-year runiversary is almost here. Yes, I’ve been running for five years this month. My husband had been running for many years and had said numerous times that I should get out running. I remember reassuring myself it would be okay, that I was a regular gym-goer and pretty fit. But in truth I was shocked at how difficult that first run was.
Well, I got through that first run on encouragement – and a mix of walking and running, to be honest. My husband was encouraging me to keep going, so we walked and ran, even though it as really hard!
The thing is, I have a steely determination in me, and I love a challenge, so I had a natural urge to crack the whole running thing. I think it was about seven weeks later that I came running in the front door with my hands in the air, elated that I’d done my first 5K non-stop!
