Pixie relaunched in style
BAGNALL 0-4-0ST Pixie (2090 of 1919) returned to public service at the Richmond Light Railway (RLR) on July 6, during a one-off event held at the private line in Kent.
In celebration of the loco’s former preserved life, various Cadeby re-enactment trains ran, including Pixie with a Penrhyn coach and an RAF Fauld wagon, as typically operated at the late Rev‘Teddy’Boston’s line. Replica headboards in tribute to the originals from Cadeby adorned Pixie for parts of the day, plus a photographic display of Pixie’s life was available for visitors to view. Both quarry Hunslets Elin and Sybil were also in steam. Following the closure of the Cadeby Light Railway in 2005, the majority of the rolling stock collection went to the Moseley Railway Trust, which subsequently opened the Apedale Valley Light Railway. However, Pixie was sold to a private individual who started a 10-year overhaul. Last steamed in 2006 before being stripped for overhaul, it was purchased by the RLR in 2019.
