Wagon Report

SELF-PROPELLED or autonomous wagons are fairly unusual, with only 14 currently in use. Balfour Beatty has two YJA-F power wagons (Nos. DR 78701/702, dating from 2004) for use with Harsco Track Technologies’New Track Construction (NTC) machines. An earlier version of NTCs, operated by GART Renewals, used a tracked bulldozer for on-site haulage.
Network Rail owns Cowans Boyd YXA-P power wagons Nos. DR 89005/007/008. Introduced in 1985 by British Rail, there were originally 16 long-welded rail trains (LWRT) with the power wagons providing traction and braking during rail drops to the trackbed.
