SPECIFICATIONS APPROVED:
Designs for two viaducts on HS2’s approach to Birmingham have received local authority approval. Consent was given to the plans for the 475 metre-long (519 yards) River Blythe Viaduct (left), south of HS2’s Interchange station, by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. HS2 Ltd says local feedback regarding tree planting and protection of the environment close to the river has been incorporated. Running a length of 225 metres (246 yards), Saltley Viaduct (right) will take the B4144 road over the HS2 route, the Birmingham and Warwick Junction Canal, the Birmingham-Derby railway line and the River Rea. Birmingham City Council approved a revised proposal, including a wider pathway, additional lighting and perforated side panels. The viaducts were the final major structures on the route into the city requiring approval. HS2
