Though synthetic hormones leave the body in a matter of days, it can take a while for your body to adjust to coming off the pill. In other words, don’t be surprised if you notice a few side-effects as your natural hormones become regulated.

What’s the best way to come of the pill?

If you’re on the combined pill – which delivers both oestrogen and progesterone – it’s important to complete your pack of 21 pills before taking a break. You’ll have a bleed as normal, and your periods may or may not resume a month later. Even if you find that your periods don’t resume straight away, you could still get pregnant, so use condoms if a baby isn’t part of the plan.
