Mental health
Heads you win
If only running was as simple as just going for a run. We all know the many pitfalls that can stop us in our tracks, but happily help is now on hand in the shape of Dr Juliet McGrattan who has written the ultimate runner’s bible to running health, from our feet right up to our heads
Words Dr Juliet McGrattan / Esther Newman
If you nurture it, running can become a lifelong salve to your mental and physical health. And it can spark a lot of joy along the way too
Not enough books about running are written by women. Fact. Due in part to a lack of confidence perhaps, and also to the dearth of female running coaches, as well as many other issues including, I’d suggest, an unwillingness to publish running manuals written by women.
We need to address all those things. Thankfully, in the meantime, we have Dr Juliet McGrattan; medic, runner, director for Fearless 361, and Women’s Running writer and health expert since the start.
Juliet has just published her second book, Run Well, and every runner needs this on their bookshelf. This is the book that will stop you from asking the opinions of the distinctly shady Dr Google. Step by step, she kindly leads us from head to toe of a runner’s body, addressing all the complaints, injuries, niggles and concerns that runners could possibly have, from Athlete’s foot to migraines – it’s all in here. Crucially, Run Well isn’t just about our physical health; it’s about our mental health too.
