Lockdown and the pandemic has impacted the mental health of millions across the UK and research released by Sports Direct has revealed that 87 per cent of young people between 18 and 24 years old feel that their mental health has deteriorated during the third national lockdown. Young women are reported to have been disproportionately affected, with 67 per cent admitting that their mental health has suffered during this time.
Awareness of the relationship between exercise and mental health has never been more important. The research also showed that nearly half of young women reported that exercise and fitness has helped to lift their mood, especially walking, with over a third finding that exercise helps them to feel more mentally resilient.
