The Quarto Group
The Quarto Group started exactly 50 years ago when London-based designer Bob Morley and writer Michael Jackson (who later became the renowned beer writer, not the pop singer) went to New York to pitch some American publishers, teaming up with Columbia University professor Laurence Orbach, who was running his own small press, writes Gary Dalkin.
Today Quarto has headquarters in London and the US and distributes its books to 50 countries with translations in 40 languages.
Quarto’s multiple imprints place a strong emphasis on beautifully designed non-fiction titles, and span the alphabet from Arum (narrative non-fiction for adults) to words & pictures (a visually focused imprint for children). Recently published titles include the biography Turmoil by Neil Basu, and All Roads Lead To Rome: Why We Think of the Roman Empire Daily, by Rhiannon Gareth Jones.
