TRAVEL WRITING KNOW-HOW
A battlefield tour gives Patrick Forsyth an idea
A visit whether to a country or a single spot can produce a lot of information. Not all will be useful, and the trick is to act to ensure that amongst what you gather is enough good (in whatever way) material to fuel your writing. Some information can come from prior research, some from what you see and hear in situ and some from people you speak to there. Sometimes you chance across people who add to the information you can use in a notable way; for example, someone may give an unusual insight or an amusing slant on something and add disproportionately to what you can then write.
