The 2017 HE Bates Short Story Competition is open for entries.
The competition was launched in 2005, the centenary of the Northamptonshire-born short story writer’s death. For this year’s competition, the prize money has been increased to £900.
The competition is for original, unpublished short stories up to 2,000 words, on any theme. The first prize is £500, the second prize is £200 and the third prize, £100. There is also a £100 prize for the best story by a Northamptonshire writer.
