Pipe Wrench is a thought-provoking bimonthly, publishing ‘one core longform story and a constellation of other pieces interpreting or reacting or spring-boarding off it.’
The lead article is 4,000 to 7,000 words, preferably on ‘an idea most readers have never thought about before,’ accompanied by ‘a piece of short fiction, a musician’s playlist, and an essayist telling a personal story…. plus ‘An interpretation from a visual artist.’ Submissions are open year round for the ‘core longform story and a constellation of conversation pieces’. Work should be ‘in a range of styles and media that interpret, react to, or springboard off the core story.’ The team want ‘Longform nonfiction with a strong narrative and a critical lens, 4,000 words plus, that take readers on a journey beyond the ‘Who-What-When-Where, and that dig deep into the Why.’
There’s a form at the website for writers to suggest a conversation piece. Response time is ‘within thirty days’. Payment for conversation pieces start at $150, payment for core stories start at $1,500. Pitch core subs to: pitches@ pipewrenchmag.com, otherwise online at https://pipewrenchmag.com
