TRAVEL WRITING KNO W-H OW
Don’t be fixated on writing about future travel, suggests Patrick Forsyth

Over these past Covid months travel has been in the news a lot; mostly for negative reasons. Most travel writing is for travellers and if people are not travelling then some of the traditional topics of travel – typically the ‘this place is wonderful let me tell you why you should go there’ kind – may have less appeal. There are real problems of timing too: a couple of days after Germany announced that no one from the UK could visit, a feature in The Sunday Times travel supplement recommended a visit to Berlin. Currently such mismatches may be difficult to avoid.
