NOTES FROM THE MARGIN
THE EGO-BUSTERS
Lorraine Mace finds she’s not the only writer whose friends and family seem determined to prick her balloon
Lorraine Mace
Wow! When I suggested readers write to me about their experiences of weird and wonderful things said to them because they write (Sour Grapes, WM July) I expected a few emails. What I hadn’t anticipated was the deluge of anecdotes – some funny, some sad and some straddling both. If I haven’t used your experience in this column, fear not. I will be writing another one on this subject in the not too distant future and your turn will come.
Ann Palmer was told all artists are selfish by a new neighbour when she learned Ann was a writer. An instant conversation-stopper.
