EGG
Egg ESOTERIC
Canterbury classic gets vinyl reissue with extra track.
It’s hard to overstate the reverence in which Egg are held within the Canterbury scene community. Keyboardist Dave Stewart, bassist Mont Campbell and drummer Clive Brooks only recorded two albums during their short lifespan. These were followed by one studio-only reunion recorded in 1974, two years after the group had split up. Over the subsequent decades, the position of all three records as stonecold classics has been cemented, coming to embody the silliness and seriousness that exemplify this particular subset of progressive rock. Now, 54 years after their self-titled debut appeared on the parent label’s Deram Nova offshoot, the original tapes of what was essentially Egg’s live set of the time have been dusted off, remastered and re-cut onto vinyl at Abbey Road.
