WEST 11
ATLANTIC COAST HIGHWAY
XENON
Featuring Beth Hirsch, heard on Air’s Moon Safari, ex-Lush bassist Phil King and Mark Shaw, who cut his teeth in Crewe band The Train Set in the 80s, West 11 constitute an indie supergroup. Of course, supergroups are often less than the sum of their parts, but not this time. Recorded with the assistance of, among others, sometime Morrissey sideman Boz Boorer, Atlantic Coast Highway mixes up guitar pop, jazz and bossa nova to evoke a sun-drenched journey. A gentle delight, although a few more colours in the sonic palette wouldn’t go amiss next time.
