GET UP TO SPEED ON… CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE
IT’S ALREADY GOT BIG HYPE BEHIND IT
Gina Prince-Bythewood’s upcoming fantasy epic is adapted from Tomi Adeyemi’s chart-topping young-adult novel. Adeyemi serves as screenwriter and producer on the film, which follows teenager Zélie as she battles to restore magic to her homeland, Orïsha, in defiance of the kingdom’s tyrannical ruling class. With the book boasting ‘snow leoponaires’ — huge beasts with thick spikes protruding from their spines — and vengeful spirits, expect Afrofuturist world-building while the story tackles heavyweight topics like authoritarianism and colourism.
