FEATURING John Lennon, Yoko Ono
Tethered to the only full-length concert that John Lennon performed outside of The Beatles, Kevin Macdonald’s documentary captures in a fresh light how the musician and Yoko Ono were leading voices of a troubled generation. The cultural and political fabric of the early ’70s is energetically fortified with archive news footage, recordings of the pair’s phone conversations and TV interviews loaded with their big dreams and ideas, which do more than simply frame Lennon’s live performances of songs like ‘Come Together’ and ‘New York City’. It’s the inclusion of Ono’s independent life, however, from day-to-day tasks to broader tragedies, that makes for a more vivid, varied and intimate insight into their very public lives.
