The top three lines of the seismogram show the earthquake as registered at the Plockton station, with the lower three the track at Loch Awe.
Seismological equipment operated by the British Geological Survey (BGS) at its stations at Plockton and Loch Awe registered an earthquake centred on Invergarry on Friday. With a magnitude of 1.7 on the Richter Scale, the earthquake struck at a depth of 14kms just after 8.28am and reportedly caused no damage or injuries. One local resident told the Lochaber Times she had not felt anything out of the ordinary. In an average year the BGS detects about 100 earthquakes around Britain, with only about 20 per cent of these actually felt by people.
