ORIENTEERING
Orienteering club EckO held the first of its autumn/winter series of events at a blustery Tralee on September 16 with a good turnout enjoying a range of courses for all ages and abilities. While the younger orienteers were finding Barnacle Bill’s treasure on the beach, the maze and three colour-coded courses kept the older competitors busy in the surrounding woodland. The event was rounded off with a barbecue and the presentation of prizes for the 2017-18 season. The prize-winners were: Best junior performance – Tom Lines; Best senior performance – Susannah MacMillan; Most improved junior – Gregor Mailer; Services to the club – Jan Kersel; Wooden compass – Ross Lilley. Receiving certi cates for the inaugural club league were: Yellow courses – Ailsa Owens; M/W14 and under 1: Rona Shearer; 2: Finlay Cottier; 3: Ruari Cottier. M/W18 and under - 1: Louis MacMillan; 2: Ewan Shearer;3: Logan Mailer; W20 and over - 1: Carol Burnapp; 2: Leigh Murray; 3: Lucy Shearer. M 20 and over 1: John McLuckie; 2: Andy Dale; 3: Jim Mailer. The club is grateful to Tralee Bay Holidays for the use of the area, its facilities and its oven gloves. Prior to EckO’s next event at Dunstaffnage on October 21, Tom Lines will be representing Great Britain at the Junior European Cup in Switzerland and a number of club members will be competing at Scottish Orienteering League events in Badenoch and Tay Forest Park. Loch Eck Orienteers (EckO) is the orienteering club for Argyll and welcomes newcomers of all ages and abilities to go along to any of the events held throughout autumn, winter and spring.
