Trading Standards are warning residents about a PPI Refund scam which is currently circulating in the islands. An initial cold call claims people are due a PPI refund for more than £4,000 and asks for some personal detail including name, address and how long they have been living at their address.
Shortly aTher, a subsequent caller states they are due an even larger refund, and informs them that a cheque will be hand delivered to their home and they are given a date and time for delivery.
The caller then instructs the person to buy a £150 Google giftcard at a local supermarket to cover their administration fees. They are told to buy this card prior to the delivery date. A spokesperson said:
