Kate Forbes MSP has welcomed a commitment from NHS Highland that it is actively seeking a local solution for kidney dialysis patients in the area.
Currently five patients are travelling three days a week from their homes on the island to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, which the constituency MSP described as ‘intolerable’.
It is understood that until two years ago, no patient from the area had required haemodialysis for more than a decade, and some have now raised this with Ms Forbes in a bid to find a solution.
