RUNNING continues to grow in popularity as a participation sport in England, according to the Active People Survey.
The number of people aged 14 or over taking part in “athletics”, most of whom are runners, rose by more than 5% in a year to 2.485 million. Only swimming is more popular, with 2.59 million participants.
The number of runners has risen by 1.3 million since the start of the APS in 2005.
