Batsman returns
Coming Home Freddie Flintoff (Blink Publishing, £22)
YOU have to feel a bit sorry for young British sportsmen, and young British cricketers in particular. Barely have they done anything than they are called upon to write their autobiography, which usually takes them from their first rusk to their first negroni, with several thousand pints of cooking lager in between. Then, if they gain enough fame and notoriety, further volumes will follow at regular intervals.
The former England fast bowler Dominic Cork did not have a long career, so his first book, the lamentably titled Uncorked!, was his only book. Whereas such notable non-writers as Ben Stokes, Andrew Flintoff and Ian Botham have “authored” hundreds of books, thanks to the insatiable greed of publishers, the hard work of a small army of ghost writers and the unlimited gullibility of punters.
