HOW are things in the brave new underpopulated world of Reach plc, which dispensed with hundreds of its journalists at the end of last month and shifted to a new AI-aided system where copy will be shared across both national and local titles?
Well, the readers hate it, for a start. So many complaints have flooded in about the shared “back of the book” section of the Mirror and Express, which has been redesigned so it matches the rest of neither title and (an unforgiveable crime in newspaper land) with changes to the crosswords, that hacks have been issued with a memo instructing them that: “If you receive a call from a reader... please remember to treat them as a VIP.”
