CAN anyone help find a missing trophy?
The clarion call has gone out from Julia Lee and her colleagues, who are helping her with her ‘Life with the Lionesses’ project, regarding the whereabouts of the Shield that Great Britain’s Women’s team so gloriously won when they toured Australia for the first time back in 1996.
That was a terrific achievement, the side – coached by Ian Harris and Jackie Sheldon, with Lisa McIntosh and Brenda Dobek providing inspiring onfield leadership – flying home as proud winners of the inaugural Ashes.
I chatted to Julia about those heady days last week, as part of an interview with her which features in the next issue of Rugby League World, and I’m sure it will make entertaining reading for all our readers.
Indeed, I hope to see both Julia and Jackie at Westminster tomorrow, when the Women’s World Cup will be paraded alongside the Men’s and Wheelchair Trophies, as excitement builds up for what are certain to be three wonderful tournaments next year.
