BORIS JOHNSON had kind words for Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado earlier this month, after she won the Nobel Peace Prize.
“I think it was very good that Machado won... she’s terrific,” the disgraced former PM told a Telegraph podcast, describing her selfless campaign for Venezuela’s “suppressed opposition”, and praising her “genuine unfeigned humility”. “She wasn’t allowed to stand,” Johnson went on, telling the podcast hosts: “[Venezuelan president Nicolás] Maduro… wouldn’t have her on the ballot. And it’s a great thing that she won.”
