Return to Ozz
Last Rites
Ozzy Osbourne (Sceptre, £25)
IT MUST have been a hard life being Ozzy Osbourne. I think we can safely say that he did well to reach the grand age of 76 before he died, rather suddenly, back in July. Having consumed industrial quantities of drink and drugs over more than half a century, he wasn’t so much an accident waiting to happen as an accident that had happened repeatedly, with apparently no ill effects.
Thanks to what amounts to blind luck, he remained alive and relatively functional well into his eighth decade; and somehow, as his health was finally declining, he managed to write this book. One wonders how. As anyone who watched much of The Osbournes will remember, seeing the Ozz at full-mental engagement was like watching a much-loved family pet asleep on the sofa, or maybe a battery-challenged Furby or Tamagotchi, with rather less computer power than either.
