Rhino is a literary annual with an editorial team which likes to publish ‘traditional or experimental work reflecting passion, originality, artistic conviction, and a love affair with language’. The team seek submissions of poetry, flash fiction, and translations. They like to encourage writers from around the world. Poetry is their main love and they ‘appreciate work that is deeply engaged with lived experience, uses language lovingly and surprisingly, and feels explicitly daring or quietly powerful’.
Submit work online. The system reopens on the first of each month but closes when full. No multiple subs, or reprints please and simultaneous submissions are reluctantly accepted. Submit 3-5 poems or pieces of flash fiction or nonfiction, no more than 500 words. Limit work to up to five pages per submission. Group the work in one file – doc or pdf preferred – with your name, phone number, and email on every page. All poetry submissions are automatically considered for the Editors’ Prize; and often a Translation Prize is awarded. Poetry submissions for the Founders’ Prize are open from 1 September to 15 October. Rights and payment are discussed on acceptance.
