J ens Meurer’s amiable doc – shot on 35mm – celebrates the recent resurgence of analogue tech. It focuses on the unlikely rebirth of Polaroid through the eyes of the charismatic Florian ‘Doc’ Kaps, who bought the instant-film company’s last factory, only to be fired by the startup he founded to revive it. Yet if Kaps’ enthusiastic championing of handcrafted hardware might well sell you on the idea of a ‘digital detox’, Meurer never fully captures the tactile pleasures of these objects.
