Greek writer/director Christos Nikou makes an assured feature debut with this bold fable. Shot in the boxy Academy ratio, it unfolds in a strangely underpopulated Athens, whose residents are enduring an epidemic of sudden-onset amnesia. One of the middle-aged victims, Aris (Aris Servetalis), is enrolled in a programme where he is told to build new memories by taking Polaroid photos of completed tasks. Apples mounts an astute critique of our (over)reliance on digital technologies while revealing its own delicate, emotional core.
