The first feature documentary entirely in Scottish Gaelic, Alastair Cole’s Iorram (Boat Song) is a ‘creative documentary’ juxtaposing mid-20thcentury recordings of Outer Hebrideans recounting stories, life insights and, indeed, boat songs with frequently stunning imagery of modern fishermen in these isles today. Beautifully accompanied by the film’s real star, folk musician Aidan O’Rourke’s evocative score, the wandering stories and travelling images occasionally converge to lyrical effect, showing how much and how little has changed for these people across the decades.
