Los Angeles transplant selects the finest Swiss cheese
Having built a reputation for his twist on retro synths and European film scores, Amsterdam-based American Frank Maston – also partnered in PAINT with Allah-Las’ Pedrum Siadatian – hooks up with Switzerland’s L’Eclair, protégés of Altın Gün studio associate Jasper Geluk, also present here. Their nostalgia is, like Soundcarriers’, rose-tinted: a vibraphone helps “L’Eau Blue” flow like Air’s Premiere Symptômes floats, an approach to which “Swiss Franc” adds an early Morcheeba swagger and “Les Monstres” a sophisticated sense of mischief worthy of High Llamas.
