STAR LETTER
No shame
What a shame Allie Reynolds felt the need to validate her article The First Five Pages (WM, Feb) with the disclaimer that she was ‘no writing coach’. She then further validates it by saying she was ‘lucky’ her novel went to auction.
Imposter Syndrome is felt by so many women (I say women, because it is usually women who Imposter Syndrome inflicts the most) and it needs to stop. We need to be proud of our achievements and not apologise for them. Allie has a novel published with a highly reputable publisher (Headline) and is more than qualified to write an article imparting her words of wisdom.
Thank you for an interesting and informative arti cle, Allie, but please don’t feel you’re not qualified to write it.

Authors assemble!
Piers Blofeld’s article Battle of the Behemoths (WM, Feb) prompted a wry smile. I always enjoy Pier’s contributions, but I was surprised to see him speculating on how soon it will be before writers start to work together to protect their interests.
As the growing army of indie authors will attest, that era has already arrived. We see it in organisations like the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi), in role models for indies like Joanna Penn and Mark Dawson, and in the growing number of authors who are managing their own writing careers, buying in services as required, and even mixing independent and commercial publishing contracts to suit their interests.
