Dreaming on
Sitting on a rock with bare tootsies resting in silky, warm Loch Lomond water, I reach into my backpack for the August edition of WM. Jonathan’s editorial advice to switch off, just be and see, draws me in. I do not read further. Casting aside the magazine, reaching for notebook, senses respond, pencil flies.
A snipe swoops and shrills. Waves ripple round a rock suggesting large fish. Lifting my eyes I notice a tiny bug circumnavigating the hat brim. Artist hubby sits on the beach placing me in his acrylic sketch. His paint water is from the loch, a true Lomond image. Even the Scottish midges got the memo and are on vacation.
Ben Lomond peeps around the corner with promise of one more Munro to bag (for someone but not for me!). Trees embrace the hillsides, their bare, tonsured summits redolent of a medieval monastery.
A huge yellow and black dragonfly hovers at my elbow. Dark, denier wings drum, every beat audible. Entranced, I whisper ‘look. the dragonfly lingers a second longer to finish critiquing my work – I await his feedback.
