I f you haven’t got storytelling in you, you won’t get storytelling out of you. I don’t know if anyone ever said this before, but in case not, I don’t mind claiming it. (Puts flag on top. Mine.)
I knew I wanted to tell stories from about the age I discovered that sitting in a quiet corner reading a comic or book was infinitely better than going outside into the cold of the Norfolk flatlands… where my older brother and his mates were waiting to tie me to a tree and run away for an hour or two.
But I also figured that being able to write stories must be a really cool line of work. I might not have thought the word ‘cool’ exactly, but at the age of eight, who knows – I was a sponge for useful words, not all of them repeatable in front of my parents.
