Cake Decoration & Sugarcraft Magazine  |  September 2017
We celebrate life’s most precious moments with cake so this September, we have dedicated our entire issue to fun cakes for all occasions and even competitions… such as our Great British Cake Decorator competition, turn to page 16.
From mermaids to musical instruments, ‘dressed’ cakes to doodle daisies, we’ve got an awesome cake for everyone. And, as we are in a ‘back to school’ frame of mind, we’ve got plenty of delicious techniques for you to learn and perfect…
Airbrushing is a theme this issue with step-by-step advice for getting enviable results, especially for shading and adding character. Lindy Smith uses a fluid writer in her pretty doodle cake, which is something we are desperate to try, and Zoe Burmester works with wafer paper in an incredible new way to make her piñata cake – this cake is so cool you won’t want to cut into it!
For beginners, Carol Deacon has designed an incredible campervan
that makes a perfect rst ‘carved cake’ project. Definitely one to give you
confidence, and Sarah Sibley’s miniature picnic cupcakes are also ideal for
those new to sugarcraft (plus the doughnuts and croissants are the cutest
toppers ever!)
I don’t know about you but I still adore sugar succulents, and Zoe Smith
has made an incredibly simple and very chic two tier with coordinating
quatrefoil design. Ideal for an elegant birthday or simple boho wedding,
this will be the first cake from this issue that I make.
As the children are back to school, I am on the lookout for cake classes
so do write in with your recommendations – we love a review!
