Power-user distributions
Michael Reed tries some Linux distros that throw ease of installation out of the window in favour of customisation and a learning experience.
HOW WE TESTED…
Naturally, we installed each distribution by following the associated installation guides. Each time round, we chose moderate, mainstream options to build what we considered to be a general-purpose desktop system with Xfce as the frontend. This was opposed to a stripped-down headless server or an embedded-type system. While installing, we chose the modern GPT partitioning and boot system over the legacy MBR system.
