Extend his Wi-Fi with an old phone
Hoping to eliminate Wi-Fi blackspots around his home, Robert Irvine tries to…
One thing I miss about my tiny, expensive flat in London was that I never had any problems connecting to Wi-Fi. Every corner was amply covered by the wireless signal, so I could work without leaving my bed during the winter months – just as well, as the place was freezing.
A Wi-Fi extender with no Wi-Fi is about as useful as a chocolate teapot
Robert used the free app TetherFi (1) to turn his old phone into a Wi-Fi extender for his laptop (2)
Now I live in a larger, warmer and cheaper home outside the capital, I have fewer things to complain about – aside from late bin collections. But I have noticed that my Wi-Fi is spotty and sometimes non-existent in the areas furthest from my router.
