Question of the Fortnight
Has Microsoft forgotten about extended support for W10?
It’s been left off a recent email advising users what to do
Microsoft surprised many tech analysts in late 2023 when it announced plans to offer extended Windows 10 support to individuals.
When previous versions of Windows had expired, it had offered extended support to businesses only. Letting home users also pay for longer support was a big move. So why has Microsoft seemingly forgotten about it?
Microsoft is charging individuals $30 per device for one year of the Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10 (it hasn’t confirmed UK pricing, but it’s likely to be around £30). With 900 million people still using Windows 10, that’s a huge potential money-spinner for Microsoft.
