What you need: Windows 10 or 11, or macOS X
We’re always wary of free VPNs, for the reasons we outlined in our ‘Unblock websites with a VPN’ Cover Feature in Issue 717 (page 55). But Vpnly ticks all the right boxes for a trustworthy service: it’s based in Switzerland; has a no-logs policy (www.snipca. com/56248); and you don’t need to create an account to use it. Vpnly offers unlimited encrypted data and has a kill switch to maintain your anonymity when your VPN connection drops. You can choose from servers in four countries – France, Germany, Netherlands and USA (see screenshot) – and connect in one click. However, that’s not as many as Proton VPN, and Vpnly can’t match that service’s speed or reliability. It also betrays its no-ads promise with a big ad for its mobile app. But for a new, free VPN, it looks very promising.
