WRITING ABOUT FRIGHTFEST —the UK’s big horror event, held in competition with the Notting Hill Carnival —sometimes feels like this column’s equivalent of the ‘what I did over the summer holiday’ essay. I’ll filter in actual reviews of films I saw in August that will stay relevant probably for years, as they percolate to UK release. But cramming 60-plus new horror films into a short viewing time allows for a sense of where exactly scary movies are in the 2024-’25 season.
