WELCOME
AS WE REACH the end of the year, my thoughts turn —as they so often do —to the events of Highlander II: The Quickening. In that truly dire sequel, set in 2024, a hole in the ozone layer has resulted in the deaths of millions. An evil alien powermonger played by Michael Ironside, meanwhile, is saying things like, “The remains of your mortal wife. So frail. So earthy. So very dead.” In the real world, this year may have been riven by division and plagued by doomy headlines —but hey, at least it’s not as bad as that. Plus, it’s been an absolutely stonking 12 months for cinema and TV.
