ACCORDING TO THE documentary Suzzanna: Queen Of Black Magic, 60 per cent of Indonesian films in the 1980s were horror. Regimes and fashions have changed in the 17,500-island archipelago since then, but horror is still a huge part of a busy national cinema. In the video-tape era, a few Indonesian items like the truly strange Lady Terminator and muscleman epic The Warrior circulated in English dubs and grotty transfers. Only now are we seeing quality international releases for 1980s highlights alongside the best contemporary work.
