ON-STAGE COMEDY can feel like life-or-death stuff to the people performing it; hence the terms “killing” or “destroying” being bandied around freely on the stand-up scene. But what if improv comics were dropped into a situation in which a poor ad-lib could result in their literal demise? Such is the premise of new comedy Deep Cover, in which improv teacher Kat (Bryce Dallas Howard), plus two of her less talented students — shy Hugh (Nick Mohammed) and preening Method actor Marlon (Orlando Bloom) — are recruited by the police to infiltrate a London gang. We dialled up the three stars on Zoom and asked, “Yes… and?”
