NURTURING THE STUDENT GAME IS SO IMPORTANT

WHILE there is plenty going on at the grassroots as several competitions – including the National Conference League – either kick-off or bed in, the fixture that really takes my eye this weekend is the closing game of what, in my opinion, is a very important competition.
The final of the inaugural Women’s University Winter League is taking place on Sunday (March 17) at Featherstone's Millennium Stadium (which is now, it seems, pretty much the 'go-to' ground for major amateur Rugby League fixtures).
And it seems to me that it’s pretty much a 'must-attend' match, and one which may well come to be seen as being of huge historical importance.
Liverpool and Northumbria have proved to be the top dogs of the 2023-24 'pilot' season, ahead of Loughborough, Manchester, Nottingham and Oxford and, whoever prevails, I’m sure the campaign will be viewed as a success.
