The man who won every trophy
By CHRIS JONES
JOHN ETTY was perhaps the last remaining player who played professionally during the Second World War.
Etty (circled) made his debut for Batley in 1944, going on to make 346 appearances for the Gallant Youths before being transferred to Oldham (for who he played 150 games) in 1955 and then joining Wakefield Trinity in 1958, for whom he played 58 games, including Trinity's 38-5 victory over Hull FC in the 1960 Challenge Cup Final.
Etty was born in Batley and was a pupil at Batley Grammar School from 1937 to 1943.
