Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
Designed by Intel, made by TSMC, a match made in heaven?
Intel’s new chiplet CPU architecture is radical, but is it any good?
THE CORE ULTRA 9 285K,
the new flagship CPU showcasing Intel’s latest Arrow Lake architecture, marks the start of a brave new era for Intel. A big slab of silicon, containing all the cores and sundry?
Gone. Manufactured on the latest Intel process node? Also gone.
Oh, and class-leading gaming performance? Turns out that’s gone, too, even according to Intel’s own numbers, which is arguably the most conspicuous loss. Hold that thought—what you do get is the same use of mostly TSMC-made chiplets that were first introduced with the Meteor Lake mobile chip. So, does that make for a better flagship CPU than something made purely by Intel itself?
