Why the surprise at our councillors being anti-minority residents (‘Vote to fight hate crimes defeated’, The Oban Times, August 25)? We will see more caring and consideration in the new Transformers movie than from our non-transforming national and local politicians.

Holyrood’s 1990s further education policy locks out numerous disadvantaged people from better-paid jobs. They also failed to block DWP policy changes that ended support for many disabled workers in isolated communities. Last month, the independent case examiner found Jobcentre Plus guilty on four counts out of five of maladministration towards my blindness when they blocked support.
