INTO THE Wild SEARCHING FOR SEAWEED
When most of the in-land plants have died back, due to the winter weather, many foragers head to the coast. Winter is the best time to forage for seaweed – the prime season for seaweed is January to May; after that it begins its reproductive stage.
The great thing about foraging for seaweed around the UK is that all seaweed accessible by foot is edible, so it’s great for beginners. You’ll find seaweed growing on rocks near the shoreline and in rock pools, but it’s also likely you’ll spot several pieces floating about in the waves – as you might guess, it’s best to leave those, as you can’t be sure of where they’ve come from and how safe they are to eat.
