AGONY
AMIGA • 1992
◼︎ Another beautiful-looking Psygnosis title and another whose visuals take their influence from the science fantasy artwork found on book and LP covers during the Seventies. It also has an intense soundtrack, and far more importantly,
Agony
delivers in terms of gameplay. Developed by the Belgian developer Art & Magic,
Agony
sees you playing as a Barn Owl in a shooter where you use its calls to decimate wave after wave of demonic opponents before facing their end of level overlords. As you progress through the stages, you can power-up your owl’s screech, add flying swords to its offensive capabilities and collect spells that bolster your attempts to repel its hellish enemies. Safe spaces are at a premium thanks to foes spitting out projectiles and generally packing the screen, making strategic positioning a vital aspect of making progress.
